i was thinking this morning about the electric kilns at the high school.
if you can imagine?
glaze dripped on everything.
coils on the skutts drooping 10 inches.
ni chrome pins holding things in place all over the kiln.
big chunks of brick missing, kids banging shelves into the side
wall, all excited to get at `their piece`.
and then a kid yells.
`hey mel, i think the itc has welded a coil in the channel...
if we move it,it may take off a 1/16th of an inch of channel?`
my god, who could have cared, they were always in shambles.
man, if i would have had itc for all those years.
my work life would have been much easier.

Good point, I visited a High School teacher friend of mine in another town
awhile ago and spent the day at his school. He was loading a Skutt, that
looked a lot on the outside like the ones we have at the city lab here. But
brother, what a mess on the inside. I don't think there was a single piece
of soft brick channel left inside that kiln. Wire staples held the elements
in place.....sort of. The bisque he was loading looked like a primitive
bondfire firing. Everthing just stacked up on top of each other. no
shelves. I asked him when he was getting a new kiln and he looked
surprised. "Why? this ones fine"
