In Japan tea caddies are wrapped in small bags , either cotton or silk,
then put in a box. I only remember this very superficially: during the
times of the "Shoguns" tea utensils where precious gifts from the Lords
to their followers. These came wrapped as mentioned before, sometimes
they where kept for generations in the family and each following owner
would add a new box over the old one or a new bag. I think to remember
that there where bags for the different seasons too. More information
must be found in books about Japanese arts where the Tea Ceremony and
pottery play as important a role as all the other applied arts.
Heidrun in Bangkok where the rainy season comes to an end and the air
is full of promise of a soon-to-start "cool" season
