leach orange glaze ^9-10/axner's ^6 bodies

A friend has a scrap of Leach Orange Glaze that was given her, but no
recipe. Can anyone help with this high fire, reduction glaze? It was
brought back from England years ago, and she has used it as a bright
accent over other glazes, fired in a gas reduction atmosphere. I know
there are many of his glazes given in A Potter's Book, but none .seems
to apply; there is also a transparent orange glaze pictured in A
Potter's Work, but no recipes.I am assuming that this is an opaque
glaze. Hope its in someone's collection. Perhaps by next week I'll
have learned how to access the Archives with my new server...its a bit
different than my old one, and I haven't learned how to access the Web
without a URL to pop on...too busy mixing glaze tests and preparing for
a new person in the studio. Axner's ^6 Mary's Porcelain and ^6Autumn
Stoneware look great as bisqued...hard to tell them apart at this stage
of the game. The throwing properties seem very similar to me so
far.Handles OK also. Thanks all...Oh yeah...the crawlin slip tests
should be out next week also. Lori in New Port Richey Fl.

I knew I had seen the Leach Orange/Red glaze somewhere and I have tracked it
down.
It was published in Ceramic Review book of Glaze recipes in 1978!

Nepheline Syenite 50
CY Ball Clay 50

Notes recommend calcining the ball clay to remove the plasticity and prevent
crawling.
However I don't think CY ball clay is available in UK anymore so no chance
in US
I was high in iron content 6% I think.
The notes with the recipe suggest trying other iron bearing clays for
different reds.
Good luck
Pierre.
