pete's cranberry red

Josh ,

It may take about 1/8 of the time and may be a fine way to do things but
you are not getting the same information. The Currie method varies the
al/si ratio. Also your method never shows the flux only tile, since you
don't remove anything. Your method shows the about 6 of the currie tiles
going in a diagonal upwards, depending on the ratio.

Now I am not criticizing your method! Not by any means. But it is not
the same information.

A much more simplistic approach that I've been using
recently, which probably takes about 1/8 of the time,
and gets some of the same feedback is this:

I put the glaze recipe in the computer to get the
silica:alumina ratio. Then I make a mixture of EPK
and Flint with the same ratio. In the case of Pete's
Cranberry this would be EPK 45.3 Flint 54.7.

Then I take 100 grams of my original glaze and add the
EPK/Flint mixture in increments of 2 or 3 percent.
Seiving, putting it on a tile, adding more EPK/Flint,
seiving, putting it on a tile.....

This raises viscosity, firing temperature, but
maintains color response in normal glazes. Except
copper reds aren't your average glaze.
