new anagama

Hi everyone
I just got word from the University that my plans to build an
Anagama have been approved! We're doing a joint project with the
Anthropology dept (who is kicking in big $$$). The site will eventually be
turned into a archeology site - all our pot shards and junk will get tossed
into a pit, where future students will hone their digging skills.
Interesting idea.
Anyway, I put together the design last year while I was in Japan.
After spending some time in Shigaraki looking at kilns and talking with
Shiho Kanzaki, I think that I have come up with a good, small design -
less than 100 cubic feet.
I agree with Mel - build it small, and fire it often.

Anyway I just wanted to share the news. We're going to try to
fast-track the project and get it built before the ground freezes. As soon
as we get it started, I'll be putting up a web-site with the plans, and
photos as we progress in the construction and our first firings.

Wish me luck!

Matt
