idea.
please go to my website...clayart page.

this is a 4 inch stainless sleel pipe that goes through the roof of my studio.
it has an added 1 inch stainless pipe that slants down a bit that goes into
a hole in my electric kiln.

the bottom of the pipe is open and acts as a simple chimney vent
that pulls the yuck out of the kiln as it fires.
close the kiln tight with kaowool gaskets....it fires nice.
cools fast, yet consistent.
fire slow. real slow.
most of the fumes go out the pipe.
this is not a 100% vent...but, sure is to do..no motors, and does the trick.
i have used it for 25 years.
remember, the pipe will corrode if you use anything but stainless...gives
you an idea what goes out of that pipe.

i have heard of people using flexible stainless pipe like used for a truck
exhaust system...might work.
several others are using it right now.
this is a theory...each application is different...depends on roof,
cielings...etc.
one could run a flex pipe out of a window.....experiment...then let us
know what you did.
add to the idea...that is what it is about.

I used to use a passive vent system like Mel, only with recycled galv.
steel pipe. After a year or so they'd become so corroded they would
plug up. Also the venting, as Mel says, isn't perfect. On my new kiln
page: http://www.camasnet.com/~asondahl/kiln.html
I describe my current system using aluminum dryer vent pipe and any kind
of fan, which has lasted a year with no signs of corrosion. Aluminum
is considerably cheaper than stainless steel, and this venting is
available at most hardwares.

yes, go out the wall, use an elbow.
use some kaowool as a seal or gasket around the lid.
it works.
