Arnold,
Uneven heat, too hot, etc mostly causes warpage.
Rates of cooling will tend to effect glazes or clay.

Warpage can be due to clay softening and if a shelf is uneven for any
reason - or the foot of the pot is not level, or the clay is too thin to
support the weight of clay above it - so in this sense - the longer the
clay is at top temperature the softer the clay will get if it's vitrified
enough. Soaking will have that affect and slow cooling at the upper end
might also - but I would say that kilns cool very quickly when first turned
off. If you fired down slowly there would be some effect if you went slow
enough I suppose.
The first step on getting rid of warping due to vitrification is fire on a
flat surface and trim feet evenly - and for those of use who want the warp
- don't.
I would not expect any warpage to occur in a bisque firing - unless the
clay was approaching vitrification.
