I am looking for a glaze for some tiles that has the look of stones, running
from beige to grey to cream with a matt finish. Anyone know of such a
glaze? And if not,how about a glaze that goes matt gray?
Thanks

Christine,
For a stone like surface, try these cone 10 glazes. Let us know how they work.
Vals Matt - cone 10 reduction
650 Silica
3260 Kaolin
2540 Feldspar
420 Whiting
3100 Dolomite
This glaze goes to the matt grey that you mentioned.
====================

3340 Feldspar
1100 Dolomite
200 Whiting
660 Talc
1540 Kaolin
====================
Stony White Matt - cone 10 reduction
5258 Potash Feldspar
1740 Dolomite
312 Whiting
2436 Kaolin

Test this glaze for barium release if used on food surface or try
substituting Strontium Carbonate for the barium.

A satin matt, sort of stoney white but could go grey with a touch of
cobalt & iron, fires cone 9 to 11 but I prefer cone 10.
Cornwall Stone 60
Dolomite 20
EPK 20
This is my favortie glaze and I've used it for the past six years.
Unfortunately, I neglected to record the source and I would appreciate
it if anyone on Clayart might know its origin.

Hi Christine!
Have you tried a shino glaze? The shinos I've used will produce a grey stony
(not matt, not shiny) finish if you coat the ware a bit thickly. Thin
applications produce a brown stony surface. There are a wealth of Shino
glazes in the archives. Most fire to cone 10 reduction.
