My firing schedule has been adapted to Canada, Ziggy and me.
In Canada we have long cold nights, with blowing snow and below zero
temperatures. I finish work in the studio at 6 and spark the pilots all 8
of them to candle over night. I figure working from 8:30 -6 is long enough,
so I don't want to put on a coat, hat, boots etc to go out in a snow drift
later in the evening.
Ziggy the cat wakes me to let him out for a squirt at 6 in the morning. On
the day of a firing I follow him out. I put coat on over jamies, boots on
and stagger out to turn burners on low. Back to bed till 7:45 because
that's when I normally need to squirt.
In studio at 8:30 firing continues as normal. Generally ending at 6 when I
do. Nice to know the kiln is working the same shift as me.
If I worked away from my home I would probably try for a faster firing. I
fire the kiln according to my life, body rythms and Ziggy the cat.
I also watch 010 go down within 5 minutes arch to bottom. That means alot
to me with a load of carbon trap. If I evened out the kiln at the end I
would have lost the elusive carbon spots.
Owners look like their dogs, kilns fire like their masters and Canada in
winter is cold.
Cheers,
Tony
