went to the dock six christmas sale, bought pots of course.
saw their new fork lift.
(just what i have always wanted)
the new 100 cube kiln is working great. as i said, great gals, great pots.

talked to wing, a wonderful, clear thinking minnesota photographer.
he is doing a big public works project on lake street, minneapolis...big
photographs of the neighborhood, mounted on and in the local businesss'.
great fellow.
i asked him, `what are the problems you see in the young new graduated
photographers coming from colleges...?`
`well, he said, no skill, just ideas. totally untrained in knowing how to make
art. all verbal.` bingo.
he went on to say, `hard to make metaphor work with bad prints, bad negs,
bad composition.` bingo.
`photography is highly technical, a great deal happening in industry and
commerce, and the kids have to understand that technical information.`
`can't make a living on metaphor, have to have skills.`
bingo.
i got an earful. of course agreed with all he said.
he asked me about clay...i said...`ditto`.

Hello Mel, Aye. Which is Scots for, 'ditto'. To be sure, the polytechnics and
vocational colleges will be our saviours in the end. Well trained
technicians, with both feet firmly on the ground and armed with the knowledge
that will make _real_ ideas fly.
I remember a time in Britain when no self-respecting workshop in any craft
would have countenanced hiring anyone with a degree, simply because graduates
appear to have no common sense or hard, quantifiable skills.
Does your ITC work on underwear? I might be needing some after tonight. :)

Cheers mate,
