I need help.
I have been living and working in Japan for 3 years. I just recently became
an exchange student at a school near Machida. My hope was to study Japanese
as well as pottery........I have only been able to do half.
I am looking for a master potter in the Tokyo area. After finishing my
present program, I hope to stay in Japan for at least one more year. I want
to study fulltime with a Japanese potter. Ever since my oldest brother came
back from Japan with some beautiful work, I have wanted to study pottery in
Japan.
If I want to stay here, I have to get a proper visa. There is a visa that
allows you to study art, but it has to be fairly official...meaning I can't
study at a community center or something like that. I have to find an
established potter who will accept me under her/his wing.
I also want to be able to stay in the Tokyo area. I have lived in Japan for
3 years with VERY few friends....actually none to speak of, or speak to for
that matter. Now I have been making good friends and I don't want to leave
them and start all over again. If I could study in Tokyo, Yokohama, or
Kamakura, I would be as happy as anyone could ever hope to be.
I hope my English isn't funny and you can understand my feelings. I've been
here a long time searching for a way to study pottery. I just found this
"clay-list" and thought maybe someone out there can help me.
I appreciate any help you can give me. If you want to respond directly to
me, please email me at tokyopottery@hotmail.com
THANK YOU!
Erika Schmid
