Michael Banks got it right, and I chose the wrong cyanide. I checked my
dictionary after Michael's post, and yes, "yellow prussiate of soda" is
sodium ferrocyanide decahydrate:
Na4Fe[CN]6.10H2O which if introduced into a hot kiln could produce
posionous HCN since the compound is 32 weight percent cyanide ion. And the
compound does decompose at low temperature.
Chances are high that (as Michael said) if the bag had been
properly labelled as sodium ferrocyanide, the potter would have be warned
off.
Cyanide or Ferrocyanide, the so-called "salt" is highly dangerous
in a pottery kiln.
til later. Peace. Tom B.
