I'm considering buying some firebrick from Ward Burner Systems. The brand is
one not familiar to me. It is New Castle Refractories. Has anyone had some
experiance with this particular brand? It is intended for the oregon flat
top kiln as shown in the Nils Lou book The Art of Firing. It will be ITC-100
coated too.

Steve,
I, too was unfamiliar with New Castle Refractories Insulating
Firebrick. Since designing and building kilns is my business, I
had to look into it. Here are some pointers:
1. If Marc Ward sells it, you can be sure that it is not a "bad"
product as he stands behind everything he sells.
2. There is a difference is quality amongst major IFB makers, but
the differences are not important as far as most people are
concerned. The differences are really quite technical and are not
troublesome to any but the most technical of users.
3. New Castle is an old firm and can make IFB at a very
competitive (read less expensive) price.
You would be hard pressed to find "better" IFB for your use.

New Castle Refractories is a major commercial refractory company which has
been in business for quite a while. I worked for Corning Glass Works in
their dinnerware plant and they were one of the vendors we used. Quite
reliable when I dealt with them there.
