Several claybuds have direct posted asking what Mel, and now Tony, are
talking about when they mention a new year's firing. I have no idea but
will post the questions: a) Are the details available only to serious
artist/potters on the list, or can just any of us participate? b) If
(a) is true, why don't some of us less-worthy (not MY wording) claybuds
start our own firings and formulate our own details? Okay by me, but I
do not want to organize... will I participate? Yes, decidedly. Just tell
me (and I'm sure others) what to do and we'll do it. "B" lists
can be a lot of fun, too. Actually, this probably occurs at the
beginning of every millenium but, although I may look old enough to
qualify as having been around, I wasn't into pottery for the last one.

Joyce it is my understanding that potters have grabbed the idea of firing on
New Years Eve and firing through the milleniums on an individual as well as
group basis. I know I grabbed the great idea and ran with it and have
organized a community firing in our area. We are doing a sawdust firing in a
brick kiln. I got a fire permit and permission from the town. Ex-potters,
current potters, children and children's clubs have got busy and made things
to fire. It has been alot of work and a lot of fun. We are almost ready.
Just have a few potters left to bring their work. I have heard of some who
are going to fire in their barbecues so they can participate with potters
all over the world on New Year's Eve.
