I am interested in experimenting with Lusters,
but am not having much luck finding information
on how to do them.

I have seen the one book in "The Complete Potters"
series, but want more information, plus sources
for lusters. I'm primarily interested in using
lusters on stoneware and porcelain.

Can anyone help?

Hello Gary, try contacting Margery Clinton in Haddington, U.K., or the
Caiger-Smiths in Aldermaston.
Lustres and supplies can be easily bought through Potterycrafts, HREF="http://www.potterycrafts.co.uk/">Potterycrafts Ltd
and I'm sure I've seen lustre supplies mentioned in a suppliers' catalogue.
Or you could try mixing some copper carbonate with about three times its
weight in ochre, with tragacanth or CMC as a binder.
Paint onto already fired glost, and refire to around 750C in a clean
atmosphere, then reducing strongly, soaking for about an hour, and continue
reducing until he ware is at black heat.
This lot pinched from Harry Frazers' 'Glazes for the Craft Potter'.
You can also make resinates of precious metal salts, but it would probably be
a lot easier just to buy some pre-made from the above.

Hogmanay is by, Huntegowt is next, efterr the Haggis Season. Look tae yer
nets an' sherpen yer Tridents, lawds an' lassies.
Burns Night on the 25th - just another reason to drink the Uisghe, as if one
was needed!

Gary another book,Lustre(spelling as per the title) for china painters and
potters by Heather Taylor. is another book with some pretty incredible
pieces. How to's and how to fire. Not sure if your in the US or not from
your email address but I have gotten some from standard ceramics, in
Pittsburgh Pa. Also if you have china painting studio's in your area they
frequently carry them, and you might take a class or to ( 1 nighters
generally) to learn how to apply them.... Have used the commercials, they
are on the expensive side and watch out for some of the greens (dk) they
seem to be having difficulty with this color Hanovia anyway. Ordered some
green from standard but didn't fire it yet.
Good Luck.
