Were Arabian or Reduced Lustres so simple Alex, as given by the instructions=
in
Harry Fraser's book, we would all be masters of the process. Unfortunately =
all
is not as it seems and one might do better with the potions given by =
McBeth=92s
Witches. I have read all I can find on this topic, including references to
lustred glass and there is a lot of misinformation out there. To be =
successful
the task needs dedication, a lot of trials of both glaze and paste and good
command of the fire. As I said, Margery Clinton and Alan Caiger Smith cover =
the
ground better than most. I have not read the work from Stoker=92s Siding but=
I
know Bob Connery has spent more than five years perfecting his recipes and
firings. We talked about the chemical side of it back then when I was up =
there.
I believe it is the least understood of all the decorative processes, but I =
will
not say why.
I have found Authors, including Alan Caiger Smith, to be most forthcoming =
when
you make inquiries. Many have helped me over the years. But it would be an
impertinence on my part to contact any writer before I had read and digested
their work. When you are knowledgable, they are willing to discuss research
which you may be doing and offer directions which might extend you
understanding. That is something I respect.
