On December 27, 1999, in a discussion of titanium on Clayart, I mentioned a
cone 9 crystalline glaze recipe attributed to Peter Deck from Australia.
The recipe I gave (an apparently zinc-less crystal glaze) was published in
Pottery of Australia magazine a few years ago:
potash feldspar 49
silica 34
kaolin 3
titanium dioxide 14
plus colouring oxides
I've now fired a test of glaze (using Australian feldspar, kaolin etc) and
it doesn't form a good glaze at all. More a frothy orange-peel mess. It is
likely that the published recipe had a significant typographical
error -probably the 14% TiO2 should read 14% ZnO. My apologies to anyone
who wasted time trying this one.
