------------------
Recently I got some clay (1403) I think is very exciting to work with. It =
is a
cone 04 to 6 umber yellow clay with crushed tiles or bricks in it. I used =
it
for slabs, but thought, well, I am gonna throw it too. When it is ribbed =
with a
metal rib is has a very rough surface. Like lava rocks poking through a
yellowish backdrop. I have used it for some small bases to narrowl vessels =
and
for some enclosed forms. It is so stoney, it is almost like handling =
cement,
but it
throws.

I am wondering if there is something that I could add to clay that would =
give
this pebbly texture without the
abrasiveness and of course would not burn out. I have feeling there is =
nothing
really besides groggs that are
equally abrasive to throw with.. It is not strength I am seeking, but =
texture.
After a few throwing sessions with this clay, I have to stop for reasons of
really worn finger nails, I need a new wedding band and I could start a life=
of
crime
because I do not believe I have any fingerprints left.

I am thinking along the lines of a grogg that is manufactured round?? The
groggs I have on hand all seem to
be =22broken=22 in shape.

But it was fun to throw the first 3 or 4.
