Pottery instructors who are currently teaching K - Adult in public and
private schools, community colleges, recreation centers, art centers, adult
education programs. Accepted artists will be invited to exhibit up to 3
pieces of their work. In the case of large pieces, fewer than 3 may be on
Entries will be selected by slides. Artworks done in clay will be the only
medium accepted. Pottery, sculpture and forms done in clay are acceptable.
The City reserves the right to refuse any artwork misrepresented by the entry
slide. All work will be insured while at the City Park Recreation Center. A
value must be provided for this purpose. The shipper is responsible for loss
in transit. All claims are the artists' responsibility.
Each artist is requested to submit a successful/unique teaching idea using
clay as the medium. This short, written description of your activity is due
with the slide entry form. All ideas will be printed in a booklet. Please
include materials needed, age appropriateness, and length of time needed to
finish project. Photos of in-process and completed projects are welcome but
may not necessarily be published in the booklet.
$650.00 total. First, second and third place will be awarded in each of two
categories: Functional and Sculptural. A juror's award will also be given.
Mark Zamantakis, although strongly identified with Denver and the Rocky
Mountain region, reveals himself as an international personage, particularly
in his chosen field -- the art of ceramics. Born in Utah, of parents who
came from the island of Crete, he received his B. F. A. in Art Education,
and M.A. in Ceramic Art at the university of Denver. Mr. Zamantakis has
taught at George Washington High School and the Colorado woman's College, and
as an exchange teacher in Kyoto, Japan. While abroad, he was able to absorb
much from the ancient practices of kiln firing and pottery making of the
Chinese and Korean potters reflected on the work of contemporary Japanese
potters. Mr. Zamantakis operates a Washington Park (Denver) studio and has
built a permanent three chamber climbing kiln in Fairplay, Colorado, where he
also has a summer studio.
Each artist may enter up to 3 pieces; each entry is $5.00 with a minimum
entry fee of $15.00. Slides are required for each entry and must show 2 to 3
views per entry, be 35mm, 2" x 2" size, with artist's name, phone number, and
title of piece written on each. Pleas include a #10 SASE for return of
slides. Entries are due by 2/15/2000. Mail entry form, slides and check
(payable of City of Westminster) to: Sally Nehr, Dept. of Parks, Recreation
and Recreation and Libraries, 4800 West 92nd Ave., Westminster, CO 80030.
Notification letters of acceptance/rejection will be sent Feb. 31.2000.
If your work is accepted, send or hand deliver to: City Park Recreation
Center, 10455 Sheridan Blvd., Westminster, CO, 80030. The Pottery Studio is
located in the Recreation Center. Work must be sent in museum quality
reusable cartons. All work will be returned COD via UPS. Each piece must be
labeled with your name, address, phone number, title of piece, price and
Works may be for sale and the City of Westminster will handle sales. A 20%
commission will be charged, along with sales tax of 7.5%. Sellers are
responsible for pickup or shipment of sold pieces to buyers. No early
withdrawals of works from the show.
