source for misc. chemicals??

Like many others, I do extensive experimenting with glazes and often need
chemicals not carried by the ceramic suppliers that I know of (I have
about 25 catalogs of such companies in the US).

Having used up my long-ago-acquired stash of some items (e.g. strontium
chloride, fine iron powder, etc.) I am looking for a current source.
The large chemical companies that I have contacted are not interested in
selling to individuals any more (I guess they are afraid we will make
bombs, drugs, etc.).

Does anyone out there know of a supplier that will sell small quantities
(e.g. a few pounds) of technical grade chemicals to individuals?

Thanks.

Do you subscribe to Ceramics Monthly? There are oodles of ads for
suppliers which sell the chemicals commonly (and uncommonly, too) used in
ceramics. Regards, CNC

LeRoy,

I have only used this source only once, but with good luck. No
affiliation. The main attraction was the super variety, and
"relatively reasonable prices" - but for "chemical grades" - you
know how that works, use as second resort.

Name: Antec, Inc
eMail: info@kyantec.com
Phone: 1-800-448-2954

Hope this helps,

LeRoy, Perhaps Advance Scientific & Chemical can help you or give you
information. They are in FtLauderdale, Fl. Their number is 800-533-4605.
You might also look at the internet . Years ago there was a place in
Burbank CA called Student Science Service which would sell small amounts of
chemicals that were a much finer grind than the ordinary chemicals one
finds from a clay supplier. You might ask the long distance phone
operator for a number to see if they still exist. Hope this helps. Mia in
