I'd like to suggest that those made by Bluebird Manufacturing are
exceedingly well made, last a life time when maintained correctly, and
produce wonderfully dense, deaired, clay.

We have a Powerstar 3000 (Ithink thats the #) and use it daily. We also
take it appart for cleaning to use as many as 6 or more different clay
bodies for RAM pressing on a weekly basis. We put this machine through its
paces. It disassembles quickly, cleans and reassembles in a flash. The
drive train is rugged. In short, these machines work. We recently converted
the starter and the motor to 220 volts and the motor just hums along.

We also have a 750 SV from Bluebird that I purchased in the late 1970's.
Finally, after all these years of pugging great clay, the gear reducer
became toast. With a new gear reducer(replaced overnight by Bluebird), this
puppy is back on line pugging out excellent clay. We also replaced the
bearings, chain, large and small sprockets, so essentially we have a new
pug. Years ago we replaced the old Dayton vacuum pump with a rotary vane
pump from Gast. At this altitude, it really sucks, so to speak!!

Finally, at Bluebird, Trina, Rebecca, Dave, and Dennis are helpful and
accomodating, patient and quick to get what you need in terms of parts and
advice.

Do I have any financial involvement with Bluebird? None other then I have
bought 2 of their machines in my pottery career, and would buy a Bluebird
again in a heartbeat when and if I need another machine.

My experience with Bluebird is parrallel to Jonathan's. My first pugmill was
a studio model bought in 1976. The only thing I ever replaced was a rubber
bushing. I sold it in 1992 and bought a Powerstar. The studio model is still
running strong after over twenty years of hard use. The Powerstar is used
daily both to pug and to extrude. Best purchase I ever made.
