Sitting in class the other night someone ask if anyone knew how bat's got
the name of bat. Is there any historical reason, any ideas. While we are at
it what about chuck's. Thanks for any comments and information.

A chuck in machinery is used to describe something that holds an object
while it is being worked on... like a "chuck" on a drill holds the drill
bit. I have no idea about "bat"...
