I have been using an 04 glaze developed Walter Ostrum and known as ostrum
yellow. While my friend in NY has no trouble making this very simple glaze,
every time I try it I get a beige rather than a yellow. The colorant is
black iron oxide. The other ingredients are very ordinary - silica, kaolin,
gerstley borate, et al. I can't go on getting the glaze from my NY friend
and I was wondering if anyone is familiar with it and can give me some
insight into the problem or if someone knows how to contact Walter Ostrum so
that I might ask him. Keep in mind that I am using my friend's glaze
formulation, so the variant is not my clay or my kiln. The glaze works just
fine, just not when I mix it. The only thing I can think of is that there is
some variation in the iron oxide itself.

Nancy- The variants might be in your water. Or are you getting your
chemicals from the same supplier that your friend purchases from? Every
chemical is not exactly the same, different mines, batches etc.
