Hi Chris and Venna,
I use a long wooden rib with a paddel end to flatten and smooth plates.
But when I am slightly distracted, I can catch the rib edge in the plate.
It sounds like the plastic pipe would elimiate that drawback. I
might make Claus' utility shelf stand on three legs tomorrow.

Thanks for the idea.

Hi Alisa,
The long wooden rib I saw had no paddle at the end. Is that a
throwing stick? This was more like a long rib with rounded ends, from what
I remember.
I personally throw plates by flattening the mound with the side of
my hand, then go over it with a sponge, and finally with a large kidney
shaped rib.
Chris' pipe idea intrigues me. Must find a pipe and give it a try.
Good luck with the leg of Claus' shelf stand!
All the best.
