Open to artists and designers working in various fields, these studios
integrate the development of individual projects with demonstrations,
design critiques, site visits, slide lectures, and readings on
historical and contemporary architectural ceramics. Students are
presented with a variety of opportunities to develop their skills as
designers and artists who can work effectively with architects and
clients to create ceramic sculpture and tile installations in public
and private settings. Presentations by artists, architects,
historians, and fellow studio participants expose students to a rich
variety of sensibilities and approaches to creative brainstorming,
design, fabrication, and installation. Students are expected to develop
projects and proposals for specific sites and clients.
This Spring Term's seminar will feature work-in-progress by Nancy
Selvage for a new visitor's center at the Grand Canyon and the
fabrication of a 150' mural by Jeanee Redmond for a large office
building.
