I am thinking of purchasing a bench grinder. I am looking for something to
finish pot bottoms and also to sharpen tools. I did check the archives, but
most of the posts dealt with removing glaze drips. Glaze drips aren't
normally a problem so it would just be for polishing. Also, I didn't see
any posts addressing sharpening tools.
There is a belt grinder in the Seattle Pottery/ Axner catalogs. Anyone have
experience with this or know of a better grinder for this purpose?
I'm wondering if I can change the belt depending on the purpose or can I
use the same belt for both?
Thanks

Dear Tamara; I have been using a polishing wheel attached to my Baldor
bench polisher for some years and find it very usefull. The wheels range in
size, but I use a Merit 8" diameter wheel. It has a steel center with many
tightly bound 'flaps' of abrasive paper. You can shape the cutting
surface(in my case 2" wide) with a piece of SiC kiln shelf. Available in a
wide variety of grits. I use 80. Regards, Hank in Eugene
