I use plastic bats that have a waffled back. They fit my Laguna Pacifica =
wheel
perfectly (a hair tight to start with, then they wear into a perfect fit). =
The
bat pins don't come all the way through, which makes a great throwing =
surface
for plates/platters. They have 2 sets of holes for 2 different bat pin
diameters. I have gotten pretty good at feeling for the set I use and =
popping
the bat right on the wheel. I guess I could mark the edges of the bats =
where my
pinholes are, too. Clay doesn't build up on the bottom at all. The bats =
don't
warp or cup, and if I leave a ring of clay on from wiring off, it pops right=
off
when it dries (when I'm lazy). I haven't had any problem whatsoever with
s-cracks, even though I leave my ware on the bat for quite a while before =
wiring
off (just to avoid deforming the ware when I pick it up).

Does anyone use or have tried plastic bats that have a waffled back side. I=
saw
them in the Axner catalogue.
Last time I was in New York, I took home a dozen of the =22plasti-bats=22. =
They are
drilled =22universal=22, and fit
my Brent fine. Sometimes the oval hole needs some stuffing. I am wondering=
if
the waffelled ones fit very
snuggly. I also thought that they might be more of a pain, because the
waffelling might fill up with clay. I am
satified with the ones I have, but I am wondering about this other type.
