Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I've had lots of recommendations of
places to stay, places to go, some invitations. Looks very good.
My friend Rowena mentioned that there is Native American pottery to be seen
in southern Colorado. Does any one have more information; where to go,
contacts, introductions, etc?
Thanks again in advance.

There are several galleries, both here in Denver and scattered around in the
mountains, particularly Aspen, If you want the real thing, you need to take
the time and go to Albuquerque, New Mexico. That is where most of the
pottery making pueblos are located. The tribes also have a central outlet
on the reservation where you can see their work. I saw a book with the
title something like "Three Families". I'll Look further for the right
title. It details the work of Maria Martinez and her work in restoring the
blackware and redware pit fired pottery at the turn of the century and then
goes on to document each producing member of the three families related to
her and the work that they do. Very interesting!
The trip down may take longer than you have time for. It's about a 700 mile
excursion, but you get Alburuqurqi, Santa Fe, and Taos all in the same road
trip, and art that is incredible. I have been there many times, and it may
be the place that I may have to move to in the not to distant future!
You have a personal invite from the owner of Lapis Gallery, here in denver,
to come and see the gallery. He is also one of the advanced pottery
instructors at Bicentennial Art center. you have an invitation to meet with
his class on Thursday night and with Beth Funk.s Sculpture class Tuesday
Morning, the week before the conference. Save your pennies 'cause you may
be a very busy man!

Russel Fouts was wondering about Native American pottery in Colorado.
Hello Russell
The four corners area has Mesa Verde national park. Near Cortez, Colorado,
so named because of the abundance of Anasazi ruins in the vicinity. It is
fairly far from anything else except Colorado's gorgeous unpeopled self. If
the setting of ancient pots appeals, this is not to be missed. If you drift
south into New Mexico, Chaco Canyon is another dramatic remnant. If youre
more into sitting and examining than hiking and contemplating, feel free to
disregard these suggestions.
Enjoy your trip,
Jeff
