A friend asked me a question about repairing antique porcelain and am
hoping someone on the list knows the answer or know someone who does. He
wants to buy an antique rose medallion pitcher and bowl. The bowl either
is or has been broken but all the pieces except for a few small shards are
there. He has seen other antique pieces where the empty spaces left by
missing pieces are filled in with some sort of plain substance that just
fills in the gaps. It doesn't attempt to replicate the missing pieces. He
thinks it is a clay or putty-like substance that just dries in place. Has
anyone ever heard of this?
Many thanks,
