Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions about handle breakage and
microwaving bamboo (two separate questions and posts). (Thanks especially
to Cindy who responded to both posts!)
I will proceed with the customer's mug with the special handle request with
more confidence; it sounds like the problem was possibly due to prefire
cracks made while forming the porcelain handle and/or weakness due to
crazing of the glaze (the breaks were not at either join).
As to microwaving bamboo, I will discourage my friend from doing this,
since it sounds likely that it will cause her teapot handle to deteriorate.
