Hello potters!
Then, for a claybody,it is not enough to have the right formula, but need
the right maturity.
what about recipes like these from V.C.'s book? Here is a recipe
fromV.C.'s
artical in The Studio Potter:
. C/4.5.6 White China Translucent
E.P.K. kaolin 20
Grolleg china clay 20
Kentucky ball clay 5
Nepheline syenite 30
Gerstley borate 5
Flint 20
--------
100
+ Bentonite 3%
"Not too plastic. Fire to C/6 for translucency."

Since we started to discuss about, I made some experiments.
25/4 porcelain & V.C. raku porcelain in raku firing, "tile shape" first
firing of the
kiln which takes longer time: Both claybodies survived.

Using 25/4 porcelain with Crystalline glaze ^6 (From Lana Wilson's book),
gave better
results than on white stoneware.
Perhaps the porcelain that I fired only to ^6 did not arrive to his 'best'.
Yet as a delicate claybody it can be used for different ways rather than the
pure matured porcelain. I don't fire to higher cones because of economical
reasons, and I don't care if it is not called porcelain, yet my fully
appreciation to these of us that work and create beautifull pieces of REAL
porcelain.
