Silvie Granatelli & Michael Simon Workshop
Saturday & Sunday, March 4 - 5, 2000
During this weekend workshop, Silvie and Michael will simultaneously
demonstrate their methods and techniques on and off the wheel. Through
looking and talking about pots, "we hope to have lively conversation about
everything from handles to personal expression to making a living."
Silvie's techniques in re-forming thrown pots will be explored as well as
her surface decoration methods. Michael will create the pots that he is
currently making, sharing his styles of throwing, altering and finishing
techniques. Silvie Granatelli is a functional potter and teacher living in
Floyd, Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kansas City
Art Institute and her Masters from Montana State University. She has an
extensive exhibition and workshop background, sharing her work and knowledge
across the nation. Presently, Silvie shares her time between working in her
studio and teaching part time at VPI&SU in Blacksburg, VA. Michael Simon
works and lives as a studio potter in Colbert, Georgia. He received his
Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota and his Masters of Fine
Arts from the University of Georgia. Ever since being a student of Warren
MacKenzie, Michael has been making utilitarian pottery. He has exhibited
and performed workshops across the nation and abroad.
