Hi,

I looking for a cone 10 reduction glaze called yellow salt. I believe it's
an Alfred University glaze. It's a pale yellow color.

Thanks,

Lori

Lori, Here's the glaze called Yellow Salt I got at Anderson Ranch last =
summer.
It's apparently a salt glaze that works well in gas reduction.
When I mixed it I left out the muriatic acid, thinking I could add it later =
if
the glaze didn't turn out like the Ranch's. I didn't have Ultrox, (I guess
it's not available any more), so I used Superpax, and also didn't have OM4, =
so
used Kentucky Ball Clay. Even with all those substitutions it looked =
exactly
like the glaze we used at the Ranch. Everyone at our studio likes it. There
is also a variation called Turquoise Yellow Salt which I'm including.

Hi Lori,
Looking through a very old notebook I had at Alfred, I found a Xerox of a
masters thesis (I think Biz Littell). Plus a few more yellow offerings, and
credit to the source when known:

Yellow-yellow green glaze cone 10-11
Kaolin 10
whiting 8
Talc 15
custer spar 37
100
plus: iron oxide 10%

AND "Vanadium stain #440 will salt yellow on the exposed clay or under a
glaze"

>From the late great Sandra Johnstone's handouts:
St. John's Yellow
spar 410
whiting 70
dolomite 120
flint 300
Ball clay 70
iron oxide 100

and from Jack Troy's Salt Glaze Book (out of print!)
Rick St. John's Iron Yellow
45 potash spar
23 flint
17 whiting
13 kaolin
2 zinc oxide
7 iron oxide

and

Korman Yellow
40 soda spar
31 barium (use with caution)
12 dolomite
9 kaolin
9 flint
6 iron oxide

Good luck! Bonita Cohn in San Francisco
