I am just back from the "Seduced By Color: the New Maiolica Symposium.
What a great event!! The show was superb. The presentations were great.
Toronto was really a wonderful big city experience and the clay people
were fantastic. Many thanks to Victor Levin and Elaine White for hosting
me. I feel like I've known them for years. Thanks to Carol Rossman who
also offered a place to stay.
Linda Arbuckle was missed but her work was there. Andrea Gil, Walter
Ostrum Alan Caiger-Smith, Eduardo Neri of Portugal and Alexandra
Copeland from Australia each gave a 45 minute presentation from the
artists' perspective and Tim Williams from Ashmoylean Museum at Oxford
and Catherine Hess of the Getty gave great insigt into Maiolica history
from the historians perspective. Excellent, excellent experience. I
filled a little notebook with info. Spent Friday and Sunday at the Royal
Ontario Museum and the Gardiner exhibition. Those folks north of the
border put on a great symposium.
