Potters of Oaxaca

Making Your Way in Clay"

Christine,

"Potters Of Oaxaca" is an outstanding video. Chris Autio is a wonderful film
maker. I show it in my own high school classes. I've not heard of "Making
Your Way In Clay".

Highly recommend Louis Katz's Thai Pottery videos for use in classroom
setting. I always show the whole thing (I think it is now in two one
hour segments), and students are always and fascinated. Usually they
want to continue into the second half with just a popcorn break. That
beginning segment where the relative size of huge, freshly thrown clay
storage jars is judged by how many buckets of water they will hold before
rupturing is great! Throwing, hand building, architectural ceramics,
firing, kiln building, clay jewelry, you name it, it is in here. Puts a
lot of things into perspective when you see what incredible work is done
without what we think are necessary tools and materials. One guy throws
elaborate shapes on hand turned bats which fit down over and spin loosely
over a stick set in the ground in front of him. I think Potters Shop
carries them now.

Jan,
Can you tell me where I can order this video? Mike

Dear Clayart,
Thanks Jan for your testimonial. I too would recommend them if I had them in
stock or if Potter's shop had some. Axner may have a few as well as the
Archie Bray foundation Gallery and Minnesota clay. I sent off an order
around the first week of the year and haven't heard anything.
