studio supplies/talisman sieve

Dear Fellow clayworkers,

I have for some time been thinking of purchasing the Talisman Sieve designed
to fit most clay pails. I work with 5 gal. capacity pails with my glazes
(10,000-gram batch). This glaze sieve seems like a real time saver. Any
input from another potter as to how they like them. They are a bit pricey
but look to be the real answer.

I have been very pleased with the Talisman Sieve. It works quickly and
cleans up easily between glazes. I've been using mine for at least 7 years
and its been problem free.

Llewellyn,

I use the Talisman sieve and love it. Very well made, easy to clean. The
rotating brushes make sieving glaze a matter of a few minutes (depending
upon the mesh size of the screen, of course). Five stars.

llewellyn,
Certainly worth buying for the reasons you state plus it is a
cure for that sore arm, if you have the time you could very easily make one
yourself.

Dear Llewellyn,
The Talisman seive for 5 gallon buckets is great. Really speeds up the
process. I also have the little ones for class glaze tests. they fit a
pint container.

I LOVE my Talisman Sieve. I wouldn't be without it. My only regret is that I
didn't buy it sooner.

Hi Llewellyn,

I have a Talisman Sieve that I like, but it does have some faults. It is
very Big with the handle on it. The mouth of it does fit in a 5 gallon
bucket but the outside rim does not so it tends to shift back and forth as
you turn the handle. It does do a good job of pushing those stubborn
chemicals thru the screen, but the turning brushes push the chemicals to the
outside. That said, it is easier than the plain old screen and brush. It is
also rather difficult to clean unless you have a large laundry tub sink and a
hose sprayer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Llewellyn!
I have and use the TALISMAN sieve and like it very much. I would
recommend it You can get the screens in various size mesh. It is easy
to disassemble to rinse. I hang it to store it out of my way when not
in use.
Hope this helps!

I have had a talisman for the last 15 years...wouldn't be without it. Although
there are other stainers available, the convenience and the brush handle it has
to help get the glaze through it really makes for easy work.

Pricey, but will serve you well, and last for years if taken care of. Well worth
the money spent.

Thanks Diane,

I have a fairly large deep sink here at the studio so should work fine for
cleaning the Talisman. I am convinced with so many possitive posts that I
am going to order one. I have some nice hand screens and have been putting
on the gloves and just churning around and around but the Talisman sounds
like what I need. Thanks

I love my Talisman sieve.

When you order yours, Liewellyn, I'd suggest also getting another set of
brushes. They are specifically designed to fit into the 3 arms of the
crank and, I understand, this is about the only thing that wears out.
They're inexpensive, but would be a real pain to have to chase down when
you need them.

Good luck

Cheers,
Jeanette Harris

Those little brushes are nail brushes . I`ve replace mine 3 time
since 1975. Also still have my Talisman wheel I purchased in 1974
.. Only use for turning stone though .

I really like the Talisman Sieve. About cleaning it I use the following
method:
After getting all the glaze that I can thorough the seive by turning the
handle, I take my squirt bottle and wash the sides down and screen that
stuff into the glaze bucket and then I take the screen out and drop it in a
bucket of water, then the brushes and drop them in there too. Then I take a
large sponge and clean the bugger up. I clean the brushes by rubbing the
bristles together. It's no biggie.

Then I take my seive and set it over the
