To All,
I am a devoted curbside scavenger. Ah, I just had to throw that out
there! I've procured a stainless steel back splash ( from a
closed restaurant ) that I intend to slice into one inch wide, at the
handle, trimming tools. I don't know its thickness but it seems
relatively close to the thickness of the metal strapping I have used in
the past to make my trimming tools. These tools are of the L-shaped
variety with a beveled edge. Has anyone made tools out of stainless?
I either clean my studio or make some kind of tool when I am in a
rut. Right now my studio is spotless, alas. Michael

Michael I've made some nice trimming tools from the steel pieces of
brushes that the street sweepers lose. They are easy to find , they
will all ways be just next to the curb on most streets. They are
just the right size to . Chris

Yes ,I have made my japanese tools out of stainless. The designs
came from the Penny Simpson book, which my in-laws sent me in
1980 ,before my trip to Japan.

Kia Ora Michael
Your post made me smile as my favourite tool when
throwing, for the tidying up part of the pot right at the end is a
stainless steel one my husband made for me early on in my pottery life,
many years ago. One of those triangular ones, not too long and not too
small but like 'Goldielocks porridge' is just right.

He too is a 'scavenger' and much of my new kiln has come from the
recycle shop at the tip. Such bargains!! Stainless this and that for
only a couple of dollars here and there has made a great chimney and
very proud of he is too.

----Best Wishes Maggie----
