Someone was asking about gerstly borate substitutions. I have some URL's from
Clayart archives and elsewhere that may help.
Specifically, regarding the Clayarts discussion list archives:
http://www.potters.org/category028.htm
The base url is http://www.potters.org and from the clayart archives
link you get to the materials subheading under which is the gerstley
borate listing which you then follow to the list below:
Contains the following headings:

Fellow clayarters,
I usually just lurk in the shadows of the list, but with my supply of GB
running out, I'm now desperate for information and will risk it! I've
read the postings about Murrays and Laguna Borate and got the feeling that
results have been inconsistent, at best. Aardvark Clay is selling
"Cadycal" that can be used with the addition of some calcium and magnesium
as a sub, however, I have never heard of it. I am also wondering if
anyone will be selling Gerstley like they still are Albany slip. At this
point, I would buy it! Any help from the list would be appreciated.

In hot Las Vegas where pots dry way too quick!

I've just come from my supplier, who said Ferro is coming up with a
frit substitute for gerstley borate shortly. I don't know how you might
get in touch with the folks at Ferro, but this is a thought.
