Dear Clayarters,
I have been critized for commenting on my disappointment in the latest
edition of the NCECA journal and its publication director, a person whom
I have admired for decades, George Kokis.
I remain disappointed in this edition for my reasons stated earlier. I
have contributed articles numerous times to the journal. I do not think
there is any intentional bias on the part of the editor. It just
happens. I am sensitive to the slighting as I was sensitive to Mel's
mention old discussion of kiln builders, welders, and women.-no harm was
intended. Joe Molinaro had to put the kabosh on that one.
I don't wish to start a flame war. The recent discussions on Feminism
renewed some sensitivity that had been forgotten over a decade or two.
I have taught at a University in Montana for 25 years. It has served
non-traditional students, older female students. I have struggled with
them against a system that has been biased. It is second nature by now.
I have to call it as I see it.

I agree with you, of course, about the "old boy" network in the clay
world.
All the protesting is the equivalent of the old South's statements re
blacks that this was a free country with equal opportunity for all.
I always liked the George Orwell concept of some people being more
equal than others.
If a study were done only in the academic world , I am willing to bet
that the number of tenured professors in clay, or arts, will tilt
heavily toward males.

BUT, you are forgetting the countdown until retirement!!! You couldn't
have lost count!!
We are counting the hours before we leave Saturday morning for PA for a few
days before the big Tanzania trip followed by NCECA. I think we may
actually make it without pulling an all nighter tomorrow night. Of course,
it SHOULD get to bed now...
See you soon.
