dishwashers and glaze durability

Greetings

I must have been living in the dark ages for a long time, for we never
had a dishwasher in our house.
Since moving to Newfoundland, the house we bought has such and
appliance. To my dismay, the
dinnerware set we would over 25 years ago as a wedding gift is losing
its luster (not luster glaze)
and brightness. Pieces that are not used often, remain bright and clear,
but the plates and bowls in
everyday serve are dull and cloudy.

Not that much can be done about our old stoneware, I don't think.

My concern is how to develop durable glazes that are resistant to the
acid attack each time they are
placed in the dishwasher. One solution would be to rid the dishwasher,
but I somehow think wouldn't
be a solution to many people.

Any ideas -- perhaps a good textbook on glazes. The books I have don't
address this issue. -- not in
a way that I recognize, any way. I have tried reading the technical
literature, and found a degree in
engineering would be useful.

Thank you all for any ideas that may come

BTW: I entered my first sculpture in a show and it sold. Whoa!
