Thank you all so much for all the replies. Very enlightening. Makes me
want to peek inside the tank give all that chemistry my support. Or is it
physics?
I'm not sure the rest of the clayarters would be interested, but since a
few people have asked, my kiln is a tiny crossdraft kiln, about 3 cubic
feet in size and I only have one (weed)burner but the draft of the chimney
(that was already there) is monstruous so I built a good enough bagwall to
keep everything in. I salt with it to cone 08-06 with a mixture of
different sources of sodium (borax, bak.soda, salt). The thing with the
tanks is that since this situation is not so permanent, I can't really
afford to invest in anything too permanent. Ceramics doesn't provide so
much of a nomadic lifestyle, I know, but I like to think that if anything,
I can just pick up my burner and run.
Thanks again.
