to retard cooling of glass

Since glass, larger than pieces for jewel, usually needs to needs to be
annealed, cooled slowly starting at 950F - 1000F, you can do this quite
effectively by double/triple stacking the kiln shelves. The shelves hold the
heat longer than bricks and ware ergo................ Crash cool to 1000F
also remember that the shelves remain hotter during this period too. A full
fuse goes to 1450F, you can actually stop a bit below that and the hangover
heat in the shelves actually rises a bit. If your glass is thicker and you
are working flat, stack a shelf or two over the glass which will further slow
cooling. Play around with it to get your own method for your requirements.
