I want to thank all those Canadians who made my trip up
there such a pleasure. The workshops were fun, the folks
were great, and I got to see some beautiful country.
Part of my stay was on the St. Lawrence (well, not to say ON,
but it was only about thirty feet away). It was thick with
ducks & geese, most of the ice already gone. I was awed.
Ron Roy carted me about, and stopped so that I could see
an exhibition at the Burlington Art Centre (for some reason
Canadians can't seem to spell "center"), and we stopped
to see the Sheridan ceramics facility, where Bruce Cochrane
teaches. There was all kinds of work there, and (I don't
know the why of this) an enormous number of terra cotta shoes
attached to the upper portions of the hallway walls. Some
tiles too. Saw Tony & Sheila Clennell, and more of their
wood fired work; some new stuff of Ron's; some elegant work
of Liz Willoughby's, who gave me some ice wine and a bed
for the night and breakfast and a beautiful view of her countryside.
Darlene Benner & Ann Marlin took great care of me during the
workshops, got me where I needed to be on time, and generally
smoothed the way. I got to meet Sam-the-Cat-lady again, and
she brought me a mug with (appropriate) maple leaf patterns,
and told me the reason that Canadians were so nice to Americans
was that they know we all have guns.....(please, folks, she
was making a joke; so'm I, and have no plans to enter a Great Gun Debate).

It was a pleasure to be up there again, to meet a bunch of clayart
folks and other clay people - couldn't be a better group. Thanks.
