I've often used cold wax resist (also from Ceramic Supply NY/NJ) to resist
areas, then dip or pour glaze over it. The glaze does bead up on the wax,
but you can gently clean the glaze off the wax with a damp sponge without
affecting the glaze under the wax. It is easiest to clean off if you don't
let the glaze dry completely on the wax.
