I'm trying to locate a copy of an out-of-print book, but have had no luck
with local or Internet sources. I hope that someone has a copy tucked away
and no longer in use. The book is:

Title: Handmade Potter's Tools: Basic and Innovative Ideas
Authors: Philip Whitford and Gordon Wong
Publisher: Kodansha America, Inc.
Date: 1986 or 1987
ISBN: 0870117726

If you have a copy on your shelf and are willing to part with it (for
compensation, of course!), please let me know.

Thanks,

Susan Nayfield

Les, if you don't find a copy to buy the Vancouver Island Regional Library has a
copy.

Hi from Janet across the sound!

Definitely we are gifted people, otherwise we would buy these works, not
make/sell.
If you cannot find this book start in
http://pages.about.com/bsondahl/potterytips.html the part of the site of
Brad Sondahl You might get there some advises.
What next? If you have or can buy A jigsaw and a small drill the kind you
can attach to the table: The next things you need are broken chairs and a
catalog of wooden ribs, or any other thing you had to buy. I made when I
started to work with clay, from a piece of rounded wood+steel wire from an
old typewriter, a needle tool . You need also epoxy cement and twine. you
can make tools like the Kemper tools , put the twine around and cover with
epoxy- if you did not succeed-you have challenge for the next time

Maybe this has been mentioned, my clayart post reading has been a bit
patchy of late, but at last year's NCECA it was announced that Vince
would have a book coming out on this very topic.

Any more news VInce.

Also, will there be more "Tool Doctors" this year? Vince, David and Jack
were a hard act to follow. I would suggest Lana Wilson as damn good
start.

Last Fall I wrote to the listserve to ask if anyone had a copy of an
out-of-print book by Philip Whitford and Gordon Wong, "Handmade Potter's
Tools," for sale. It was published by Kodansha and focuses on Japanese
tools, including ribs and brushes. I used the copy at the Library of
Congress and really wanted a copy of my own - I highly recommend it,
especially with regard to the commentary on ribs.

Several months ago I located a copy for myself through a used book store.
However, I forgot to remove my name from several Internet book search
services. One of them has located a second copy at Silicon Valley Fine
Books in Sunnyvale, CA.

I do not need a second copy. There were enough responses to my initial
posting on the list serve saying "If you find a second copy, I am
interested in one also" that I thought I would let everyone know that it =
is
available. I will release the book so that anyone who is interested can
contact the seller (either ABE or Silicon Valley Fine Books) directly.
