propane raku advice needed

Hi all you knowledgeable folks!

I've been off Clayart while moving to my new studio in
the woods. Am back and need some help. I previously
fired my raku kiln with natural gas ... now I have
propane and am having trouble. I have problems
controlling the heat/oxygen balance.
I fired yesterday and got a weird result. I was
firing a piece which was underglazed and previously
fired to ^06 to "set" the underglaze, then used my
raku clear over it. Where the piece faced the flames,
the underglaze was "erased" under the raku glaze,
while the raku glaze had not yet completely matured.
Am I firing it too fast? I am getting reduction if
I'm not VERY careful, yet I'm letting in twice the air
as I did with the natural gas. Sound like too much
pressure from the tank (a large 250 gallon tank)?
Orifices too large? I had them drill them purposely
small so we could enlarge them if necessary.
Any help will be MUCH appreciated. I desperately need
to get back into production!
thanks,

Karen in Gualala
