borax question

Hello ~

I've been testing several different glaze bases, and one of mine looks
pretty nice with 10% RIO, on both porcelain and dark red stoneware. (I was
shooting for a tenmoku, not that I understand exactly what that is.) The
base is a little odd tho, in that it uses straight borax. Could someone
tell me if there's any problems I should know about, using borax instead of
say, Frit 3134? Also, can you tell if this glaze is food-safe or durable
enough to use on ovenware? Here's the recipe:

Kat's Tenmoku ^5-6

Borax 25
Custer feldspar 20
Wollastonite 16
EPK 9
Silica 30
----------------------------------
100
add:
RIO 10%

Thanks ~

When you say, 'straight borax', could it be standard borax frit? If so,
then Ferro 3134 is likely to be very similar.
