Joyce,

Thanks for your charming report. My own will be late but is coming.

>>As I left Denver I had wait time to really examine the controversial roof
on the "new" Denver airport. At first I was appalled. As I sat and
looked at the Arabianesque tentlike cones, light and airy high above our
heads, I began to appreciate it.....by the time I left it was one of my
favorite environments.....much like my shino experience. <<

The new Denver Airport is enchanting viewed from a distance at night. I came
in at night and went to pick up my car in the rental lots, happened to look
over my shoulder and was struck. "What's That?!" "Just the airport", the
attendant said. JUST the airport! The tent like roof is a wonder viewed at
night, really beautiful.

Next time you are in the main terminal, under the tents. Up on the
second level, are some wonderful ceramic railings. However made these
did a wonderful job.

Tim........They have to be Betty Woodman's work, and yes, they were
wonderful.
We thought that was "the show" at the airport that everyone was talking about
before NCECA.

Susan Maguire On the SouthEast Coast of Florida, USA, where we are
having our last days of 'winter'..... 75 degrees and wonderful....

The ceramic railings in question in the Denver Airport were made by Betty
Woodman. In the current April/May American Craft Magazine there is a cover
story on her work. Betty, as you may know, was recently honored by NCECA
for her lifetime's work. The balaustrade in Denver is very typical of the
exuberance in her work. It is amazing how this exciting work fits right
into this futuristic aitport - even though its references are Italian
renaissance pots. It would be difficult to find any contemporary ceramic
installation as exciting as this commission.
