Dear Potters,
I want to invite you to share in Crafts Alive -- the Potters for Peace
(PFP) annual sale whose proceeds help Nicaraguan potters preserve their
cultural heritage and express it in new and creative ways.
Each year we raise funds by selling donated pots. Most of the $75,000
national budget is raised through regional pottery sales such as this one.
Overhead is low. Last year's DC area sale surpassed $19,000, a new record
thanks to good media coverage and the splendid quality of the contributed
pottery.
This year, the proceeds from the 15th Crafts Alive! PFP sale will
continue helping the economic recovery of Nicaraguan potters still struggling
after the devastation of Hurricane Mitch. With special emphasis, we are
supporting Nicaraguan potters in their production of high quality,
five-gallon ceramic water filters for homes lacking potable water.
The event will be held on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21, 2000 from
10:00am-3:00pm at the Washington Theological Union in Takoma Park, D.C.
Would you consider donating as many pots as you can as a 100% contribution?
Under the long-term guidance of PFP's Nicaragua Staff, Ron Rivera,
Nicaraguan potters are making great strides, including a large pottery
collective fulfilling a contract for 53,000 pots for Pier One Imports.
If you have any questions or want a list of drop-off points, please
e-mail me at dollyp@quixote.org.

In solidarity with Nicaraguan potters,

Dolly Pomerleau -- Coordinator
Potters for Peace Planning Committee
