Hello, I'm a student looking for information on mass produced ceramics vs.
ceramic art, particularly the use of slip casting in ceramic art. I have
been looking at the work of Richard Notkin. Any information (online
publications or library resources) about industrial slip casting, slip
casting used as a studio tool, or Richard Notkin would be greatly
appreciated. Since I am not subscribed to the list any suggestions can be
e-mailed to stuspurc@acs.eku.edu. Thanks for your time.

Try "The Complete Book of Pottery Making" by John B. Kenny. Chilton book co. I
got mine in Waldenbooks. It's got the basics covered. Goog Luck. Greg

I am self-taught at slip casting, so can't recommend any basic books on
that. However, once you get started, the best reference that I have found
for trouble-shooting is 'Ceramic Faults and their remedies' by Harry
Fraser. It is now available again after being out of print for some years.
It has a very good section on slip casting, from basic principles of
deflocculation to casting faults, correcting troublesome slip properties,
cracking specific to cast ware, mold release issues, etc.

Good luck,
Marni
